Unfortunately, the time difference in Australia made it difficult to catch a lot of the Open. However, if you followed it just a little it served as further proof that professional tennis is in terrific hands. As for the championship, what an incredible match. Novak Djokovic wore down Rafael Nadal in the longest Grand Slam singles final ever, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5 after 5 hours, 53 minutes to claim his third Australian Open title.
Tennis is a sport that very few flesh and blood American males grow up enjoying. However, if there was ever a time to get into the sport it would be now. Roger Federer (who may be the best ever), Rafael Nadal (the best of our generation, and potentially ever), Novak Djokovic (the best player today, potential history maker), and Andy Murray (a terrific player in his own right, who would be more successful if he wasn’t playing with these four guys) make tennis a sport that will be exciting as can be for the next few years. Professional men’s tennis is in a great place right now.
