We all watched the NBA Finals. We know that the Oklahoma City Thunder are buoyed by Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. The team went Durant, then Westbrook, then Harden and Ibaka in successive drafts. That’s good drafting.
The question today is; what 5 Professional Sports Teams Have Drafted Well the Past Few Years? We will research the MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA and decide which teams have done the best.

I was troubled with this 5th selection. There were a lot of teams that deserve this spot, but I went with the Bengals because of the season they had last year. They were a mediocre team, then a crappy team (4 wins in 2011), then a playoff team in arguably the toughest division in football. A.J. Green is a super star and Andy Dalton proved worthy at QB to highlight their major picks.
4.) Detroit Lions
2007 – Calvin Johnson, 2009 – Matthew Stafford, 2010 – Ndamukong Suh, etc. These are just some highlights of picks the Lions have made the past few years. They’ve gone for a no-win team to a playoff team in a short period of time because of their draft picks. They’ve also done a good job of picking up complimentary players as well.
Ryan Callahan, Marc Staal, Michael Del Zotto, Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan, and more. The New York Rangers were average for a very long time. Today, their draft picks are coming of age and they were the best team during the NHL’s regular season. The proof is in the results.
No doubt about this one. The best player in the NBA and a few other studs. They are the inspiration for this blog.
Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper, Jordan Zimmerman, Ryan Zimmerman, and more. The Nationals went from irrelevant to one of the most exciting, young teams in baseball. You have to love their pitching staff. They could be hear to stay.
Honorable Mention:
New York Giants
Pittsburgh Penguins
Boston Red Sox
