The 2012 MLB All-Star Game is set to kick off in less than a week. The game takes place next Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
It’s an all-star game so we’re seeing the best of the best, but this year the rosters seem more dangerous than they’ve ever been. With that said, there are a few guys who, even though they’re recognized as all-stars, seem to be underrated for their contributions.
Hit the jump to see our Underrated All-Stars….
5.) Jim Johnson – Closer – Baltimore Orioles
Jim Johnson is a huge reason why the Orioles are staying afloat. He leads the bigs with 24 Saves, and sports a tidy ERA and WHIP. He doesn’t do it with K’s but he’s been arguably the best closer in the bigs this year.
4.) Craig Kimbrel – Closer – Atlanta Braves
Kimbrel is teetering on the “not underrated” list. He’s a freakin’ stud. With 23 Saves, he may be the best closer in the game right now. 50 K’s in 30 innings is pretty dominant.
3.) Melky Cabrera – OF – San Francisco Giants
Melky Cabrera is a guy I don’t think anyone is convinced is legit, but perhaps it’s time to start believing. After being bounced around for years he’s finally thriving in San Fran. A .352 average is eye-catching, and he has the other stats to go with it.
2.) Mark Trumbo – OF – Los Angeles Angels
Mark’s another guy starting to gain recognition by the minute… He should make some noise in the Home Run Derby, but this young dude is making noise out in Anaheim almost regularly. The guy drops bombs and should be a 40 home run guy by next year (if not this year).
1.) Andrew McCutchen – OF – Pittsburgh Pirates
The inspiration of this article is Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen – His stats are phenomenal. He’s the heart and soul of the Pirates. The .360, 16, 54, 52, and 14 bags is legit. I love this guy
