Left-hander Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies is in play in the trade market Monday, a source told ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney. While it was reported earlier Monday that the Texas Rangers were in the mix for Lee, a baseball official told ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark that a Lee trade to the Rangers is “not going to happen.” Sources also told ESPNDallas.com that the chances of Lee coming to the Rangers are slim at this point, with one source saying it’s “very doubtful.”

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, one rival executive said early Tuesday that he had “received indications” that the Phillies and Diamondbacks had discussed a deal involving Cliff Lee and Justin Upton.

I love the Cliff Lee for Justin Upton swap! Big move for the Phillies. It’s hard to not think the Yankees might not swoop in and try and grab Lee for the playoffs. The Phillies need to start rebuilding in a lot of places – particularly outfield. If Upton can get his head out of his a$$ that’s a great deal for the Phils. He’s super-talented and only 24 (about to turn 25). We will see…
