Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes might be keeping close tabs on the BCS standings, but he knows that before making plans for January, the Bulldogs need to take care of business in the Western Athletic Conference.
“I think that if we win out, we’ll have a shot,” Dykes said of his team’s BCS chances. But with Utah State and San Jose State looming, the Bulldogs have another pair of tests to pass on the road to 11-1. Louisiana Tech, 20th in this week’s BCS standings, can earn an automatic at-large bid in one of two ways, but both hinge on the Bulldogs winning the WAC. The BCS excludes non-BCS conference teams that fail to win their own league – though it does not hold that rule against teams in automatic-qualifying conferences, as seen with Alabama a season ago.
Why not right? Every year we get the joy of seeing some small school advance in the NCAA Tournament. Why not football too? I’m all for it. Go Bulldogs!
