The 2013 MLB Postseason is a little over six weeks away. It’s really too early to make any predictions about what team is going to win, but there are several teams that are asserting themselves and you can be sure to see them late into October.

When you look at the teams you have to have it all – pitching, defense, offense. One thing is for sure, the teams on this list are NOT complete. There are some holes, but they are as close as you can get to complete.

Hit the jump to see the five….

5.) Atlanta Braves

USP MLB: ATLANTA BRAVES AT WASHINGTON NATIONALS S BBN USA DC

I like the Braves. One of the things we’ve noticed about the teams on this list is that they’ve been on winning streaks – the Braves are one of them. They have a very strong offense and their pitching is good. A key to the postseason is a dominant closer. Craig Kimbrel hasn’t been flawless this year, but he’s as dominant as it gets. The Braves are close.

4.) Tampa Bay Rays

A5

Pitching, Pitching, Pitching, Pitching. The Tampa Bay Rays have solid pitching. Their offense is questionable and I’m not sold on their bullpen. You can’t count the pesky Rays out. They’ve been there before and I think they’ll be a pain in the ass for anyone in the postseason.

3.) Boston Red Sox

A4

The Red Sox seem to have a little bit of that SWAG back that made them successful a couple times this turn of the century. I am highly skeptical of their bullpen. HIGHLY. That’s why perhaps the Braves are better suited than the Rays and Sox, but clutch hitting is the Red Sox game and that’s huge in the postseason. Pitching will let them down.

2.) Los Angeles Dodgers

A3

Get Hanley and Kemp healthy and get to the show. Then I’ll ride Kershaw and Greinke to Kenley Jansen. This team could be the best team on paper in the playoffs— if they get there and if they do they’ll have the best pitcher and the best player in the game in the dance. That helps doesn’t it.

1.) Pittsburgh Pirates

A2

I really hope this isn’t the kiss of death. I really like the Pirates this year. I love the scrapiness and defense. Liriano (aside from Friday’s start) has been phenomenal. It’s a question as to whether or not their pitching can hold up and hitting comes through. They’re a very solid team. I hope they can make it.
