As I was watching the games this weekend, I noticed a couple rookies making moves. This, of course, lead me to looking into the past year’s draft and the year before that and the year before that. What was striking to me was the difference year-by-year in the first round picks. Ultimately, a team that wins the Super Bowl is a team that finds hidden gems late in the draft like the Patriots and Giants have done in recent years.

However, I wanted to know who crushed the draft with their first round pick over the past five years. This curiosity lead to this morning’s post. For those keeping score at home – the Packers have a player on this list and their the only one to have won a Super Bowl at THIS point. That’s not saying these first rounders won’t pay off soon.

Hit the jump to check them out….

2009 – B.J. Raji – DT – Green Bay Packers

Super Bowl Football

What a defensive draft for the Packers! When you compare this draft to 2011 it’s not even close. This was a terribly weak first round compared to the others. Raji is the man in the middle for the Packers though. When he’s on he was dominant.

Honorable Mention – Clay Matthews – LB – Green Bay Packers, Matthew Stafford – QB – Detroit Lions
