…After showing WR James the shed (garage, or whatever his lawyer wants to call it).

Texas Tech fired Mike Leach on Wednesday after the coach took the school to court to try to overturn his suspension for alleged mistreatment of an injured player.

“I’m very sad to say there’s only one person to blame for this and it’s Mike Leach,” Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance told the AP.

Since the sh*t hit the fan, I’ve realized that I know very little about Leach besides his shed-locking ways. A quick youtube search reveals some of what I’m assuming are his finest moments. Enjoy the best of Mike Leach after the jump.

What many have called a shed has been revealed to be nothing more than a garage by Coach Leach’s lawyer. His lawyer spoke as if his client would now be vindicated, simply because it turns out Leach didn’t send players into a scene from Saw, but rather an empty, rather creepy garage.

Really?

It’s still a freaking garage! That’s like saying “My client didn’t maim and torture this person to death, he simply shot him, killing him instantly!” Sure, one is technically better than the other, but both are definitely wrong.

Besides, most reports indicate that the lights were turned off, because apparently that’s what you do for people who have concussions. So does it matter if it was a shed or a garage if the lights were off? No.

This lawyer’s slogan should be, “He’ll make you seem a little less evil! (But still evil)” Bravo.

My father, a Midwesterner through and through, has always held some conspiracy theories of big media giving Midwestern teams and conferences a lack of credit. Most of the time I overlook these theories and chalk them up to the Fox News era of wacky theories, but sometimes… sometimes these theories have some creedence.

In baseball it’s the angelic portrait that the media painted of the Yankees. I still remember hearing the joy in the media’s voices when they announced “The Yankees are BACK in the World Series,” as if the last time they were in it was when the Royals and Pirates were good. This past Christmas, it was everyone expecting the Lakers to trounce the underappreciated Cavaliers. Well after smoking the Lakers like a spent bong, they moved on to Atlanta where they’ve continued their winning streak.

For your college example, you need look no further than the Big Ten football conference. This is a conference that has been crapped on ever since the Buckeyes received a beatdown by the Florida Gators in the national championship. A game that Buckeye fans simply like to call “an upset,” when we all know it was like the scene in A Christmas Story when Ralphie kicks the crap out of the older kid. Since then, the Big Ten has been looked at like a bully who got his ass kicked. The media has looked at the Big Ten, Ohio State especially, with skepticism.

Every year we fans of the Big Ten in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania have to deal with guys like Jim Rome taking time out of his day (when he’s not looking into the mirror, shouting “You’re money!”) to tell us why teams/conferences from our humble section of the country in fact blow.

Now back to the Badgers becoming Champs of the Champs Sports Bowl. Last night the Badgers of Wisconsin took out the Hurricanes of Miami, FL IN Orlando, FL. After a year where it seemed the media was hopping on the Miami bandwagon, since it was there first season not sucking in a while, it was nice to see underappreciated Wisconsin take care of “The U,” despite the Hurricanes essentially getting home field advantage, playing in their home state.

That’s another thing I never understood. Why must MOST bowl games be played in the south? How about schools like USC and Miami tough it out and play in the December/January cold for once?

Anyway, so far the Big Ten is 1-0 in bowl play, and the rest of their bowl games look to be good match ups. Minnesota vs. Iowa State, Ohio State vs. Oregon, Northwestern vs. Auburn, Penn State vs. LSU, Michigan State vs. Texas Tech, and Iowa vs. Georgia Tech.

I’m no expert, but I think Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Iowa could all win their games. I left out Northwestern, because I just can’t trust them to win anything big, let alone against Auburn. I, along with the rest of college football nation, will enjoy seeing how the Big Ten fares in the rest of their matchups. Come January 5th, I could be eating my words or waiting to see how Jim Rome spins Big Ten victories into officiated wins or flukes.

Back during the whole Mangino fiasco, Texas Tech’s Mike Leach spoke up for the man who supposedly slapped/said mean things to a player. Well somehow it seems karma has been involved, because Leach is now dealing with his own controversy, and has been suspended from the Alamo Bowl.

Texas Tech announced Monday afternoon that it has suspended head football coach Mike Leach after receiver Adam James and his father, ESPN analyst and former SMU running back Craig James, complained to the school about alleged mistreatment after the player sustained a serious head injury. Leach is currently being investigated by the school.

The crime? Check this out and tell me it wasn’t supposed to be in the beginning of a Saw movie.

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that Leach is under investigation for allegedly sending a player into a darkened room after he came to practice wearing sunglasses to ease the discomfort of a recent mild concussion. It has been confirmed that the unnamed player is sophomore receiver Adam James, who has caught 17 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown this season.

Yikes.

Okay, I get the logic. Leach probably thought he was being funny. “Too bright for you outside? You can spend practice in a DARK ROOM! Hah, get it?” Or maybe just clever. I’ve certainly seen my fair share of coaches who encountered an athlete complaining about something (serious or not serious) and exaggerate his or her complaints in the form of a creative punishment. I guess suicides and stairs just aren’t creative anymore.

But back to the whole “I’m gonna send Mr. Concussion Pants into a dark room! See how his injury likes that!” thing. Coach Leach has not denied what he’s alleged to have done. So… That generally means he did it. And if he did… He’s an idiot. One reason why athletes worsen injuries or never treat certain injuries is because there are still coaches like Leach who simply thinks “you’re just not tough enough!” It’s a tough line to walk, because sometimes simply seeing someone in your spot is motivation enough to play through an injury you shouldn’t play for. But at the division one level of college football, I’d be willing to believe anyone that says they’re injured and can’t play. Not too many would fake it at that level.

In any event, Coach Leach will be watching the Alamo Bowl elsewhere. Perhaps thinking of torture scenes for the next Bond film.

Ohio State quarterback, Terrell Pryor, has revealed in a manner that was about as nonchalant as one can possibly get that he has been playing with a slightly torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).

Pryor, who had come back from an Oct. 31 ankle injury to help lead the No. 8 Buckeyes (10-2, 7-1 Big Ten) to a Rose Bowl berth against No. 7 Oregon (10-2, 8-1 Pac-10), said he was fine to play but wouldn’t specify which knee was hurt, when he sustained the tear or if it would require surgery.

Apparently it only prevents him from making some cuts and whatnot. Good thing he’s not a rushing QB or anything…

Obviously, as it goes with all injuries of this variety, seeing is believing. We’ll find out on New Year’s Day if Terrelle Pryor really can shrug off a PCL injury in a game just as well as he did at the press conference.

By the way… What the Hell is with the Florida Marlins hat? People from Florida aren’t Marlins fans, let alone folks from Pennsylvania!
